Jim Caldwell’s prediction | The final leg of 2024 looks wet

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A wet start to the day on Thursday will gradually give way to a more active and dynamic weather pattern as three different storm systems will impact the region over the next six days.

Thursday: Persistent rain

Although there will be no total showers on Thursday, there will continue to be showers during the morning hours. As the day progresses, the sky slowly clears, allowing some sunshine to break through the clouds.

Friday: The first storm system arrives

The first of the three storm systems will move into the region on Friday, bringing a series of heavy rains. This first wave will also have the potential to trigger some thunderstorms, although the likelihood is not great. Winds will increase, especially in areas without rain, resulting in a gusty and wet period.

Saturday: Second storm system brings increased chance of thunderstorms

The second storm system will sweep across the region on Saturday, increasing the chance of thunderstorms. Although not everyone will be affected by these storms, some areas may experience locally heavy showers. This round of precipitation will continue through Sunday and Monday.

Latest storm system: Potential for colder air and snow

The third and final storm system will be the strongest, bringing not only showers, thunderstorms and locally heavy rain, but also a rush of colder air. Once this system passes, the colder air will settle in, causing a significant drop in temperature. Highs will drop from the 50s on New Year’s Eve to the 30s on New Year’s Day. What’s more, there’s even a chance that a few snowflakes could be seen, which could mean a potentially dramatic end to 2024.

Cooler pattern persists

The region can expect an extended period of cooler temperatures as the weather remains unsettled and cool. Residents are advised to keep an eye on the latest weather forecasts and respond accordingly to changing weather conditions.
