JJ Abrams’ New Deal With Warner Bros. And Superman Movie Progress Revealed By DC Report

JJ Abrams’ Superman Thanks to a report about the creator’s deal with Warner Bros., the film is getting an update ahead of DC Universe’s 2025 release. One of the filmmakers who has had an overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery for several years is Abrams, who says he should also run a handful of DC properties for the studio. However, with James Gunn’s DC Universe now the main priority for DC Studios, Abrams’ future with the superhero brand remains a mystery.




In a new report from diversityJJ Abrams’ future at Warner Bros. Discovery has been discussed as his “The team has quietly entered into a more modest production deal with the studio, which sources say will include film and television.” which also included an update to his Superman Film. While the script was written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and was supposed to focus on a black Superman, the trade notes that the “The project is still technically alive, but has not made any progress since the beginning of 2023.” As of the publication of this story, Abrams, Bad Robot, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have not commented on this report.


What the JJ Abrams updates mean for the DCU and his Superman movie


There have been very few updates to the Black since it was first announced Superman film, apart from developing it further, even after the launch of DC Studios, which coincided with the decision to reboot the DC Universe. While no actor is being considered for the role and a director hasn’t been hired yet, Abrams and Coates’ project could be something that Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios want to invest in, albeit for some time in the distant future.

Although Creature Commands The DC Universe launched this month, but the real launch for the franchise will be 2025 Superman Film that will lay the foundation for the entire franchise. While Gunn has made it clear that the Elseworlds brand will have a place at DC Studios, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe is the only other DC cinematic franchise set outside of the DC Universe continuity.


Coates and Abrams’ Black Superman The film would easily fit into the Elseworlds concept, but perhaps Gunn’s DC Universe is a little more advanced for now. Have two Superman DC Studios most likely wouldn’t want to invest in such close reboots, especially since there are other DC films getting ready to shoot in the foreseeable future.

Time will tell if the black Superman While the reboot is actually happening, it would definitely be an intriguing film to explore under DC Studios’ Elseworlds umbrella. Even if it ended up being a one-time affair, this would be something completely different Superman film, especially if they either use a black actor as Clark Kent or cast someone like Val-Zod or Calvin Ellis in the title role.
