JJ Redick makes LeBron James statement after Lakers-Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies traveled to Los Angeles for one game to face the Lakers before a four-game break. This game marked the return of LeBron James, who had missed the last two games for personal reasons.

Looking to extend their winning streak to five games heading into Thursday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors, a 40-point performance from Lakers forward Anthony Davis helped the Lakers to a narrow 116-110 victory over the Grizzlies.

As for the Grizzlies, it was a poor offensive performance overall, despite 25 points from Jaren Jackson Jr. and 20 from Ja Morant, as they shot less than 40% from the field. While Davis presented the eye-popping stats on Sunday night, Lakers head coach JJ Redick shared some postgame comments about James, who returned to the team after missing two games.

“He’s the best on our team when it comes to details and transitions,” Redick said of LeBron James after the game. After James missed the last two games, the Lakers’ win tonight seemed to have reminded Redick how valuable James’ IQ is to the team’s success.

Statistically, James finished the night with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists after missing the last two games due to injury treatment.

Now in his 22nd season in the NBA, James’ high basketball IQ will only become more important to the team as he is no longer the constant offensive threat he was in years past. As players like Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves continue to progress in their careers, James is able to step into the background and bring value to the court in other ways, such as his attention to detail and defensive IQ.
