JJ Redick praises the “gameplan discipline” of the Lakers vs. Grizzlies

The Los Angeles Lakers entered Sunday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies as underdogs. Memphis was the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and playing extremely good basketball, while the Lakers had slipped to No. 10 with just three wins in their last 11 games. But head coach JJ Redick seemed to have a good game plan and the Lakers seemed to execute it well.

The Lakers were in control for most of the game, taking a double-digit lead with a big run in the second quarter and never relinquishing it. The Grizzlies won the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit they created in the first half. Anthony Davis was dominant and although it wasn’t a pretty game, the win was well deserved for LA

Redick was proud of the intensity with which the Lakers played defensively and how they stuck to the game plan. Even though the game had ugly moments, there were a lot of positives on the Lakers’ side.

“Against these guys, you have to play at least as hard as they do to have a chance to win,” Redick said. “I thought our guys did it. I thought our game plan discipline was really good.

“You know, in terms of physicality, this is not a negative or positive comment about the referee tonight, but it was a strange game just in terms of the way I felt the game was from the start the whistle was blown.” Season. It was a strange game. There were a lot of fouls and some physicality that they allowed.

“It just didn’t feel like we had that tonight, which may have led to some of those turnovers, especially on offense with some offensive fouls and vice versa. But I thought we did a really good job just in terms of what we tried to do defensively. Max Christie in particular was fantastic with his ball tonight.”

Redick then focused specifically on the turnovers, saying it was out of character for LA to make such unforced errors against the Grizzlies.

“I don’t like the turnovers, which we’ve been pretty good at most of the year. I think our two highest turnover games before that were against Minnesota, which isn’t necessarily explainable, but you can imagine a scenario where you have a high turnover game against them. Memphis, on the other hand, plays very hard and has some disruptive factors. But some turnovers were a bit unforced.”

LA turned the ball over 23 times, which would be their second straight game in which they turned the ball over 22 or more times. But Redick is right that it is very unusual for this Lakers team to do something like that. But that, coupled with defensive intensity and some great offensive play from Davis, still allowed the Lakers to escape with the win.

Lakers’ Anthony Davis isn’t worried about his shoulder

A scary moment during the Lakers game on Sunday night was when Anthony Davis appeared to injure his left shoulder while trying to retrieve a loose ball. He remained lying on the floor, but then went into the locker room shortly afterwards. He later returned to the game and appeared relatively unfazed. After the game, he described the injury as a stinger.
