JK Rowling compares Neil Gaiman to Harvey Weinstein over sexual assault allegations

Further sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman have led to JK Rowling today offering a shocking and revealing comparison Sandman Writer.

Not long after New York Likess detailed cover story about several new and old claims by several women against Gaiman was dropped, the Harry Potter The creator used social media to provide her own context of opinion. Rowling is no stranger to controversy, criticism and accusations of being transphobic due to her strident views on gender identity and underage transition. Initial reactions to the allegations against the once celebrated Gaiman brought them back to the imprisoned rapist Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo outbreak against the widely accused producer of Pulp Fiction.

“The literary audience, which had an incredible amount to say about Harvey Weinstein before his conviction, reacted strangely cautiously to the numerous accusations against Neil Gaiman by young women who had never met but – as with Weinstein – tell remarkably similar stories ” Rowling wrote on X this morning in the second of two missives about Gaiman.

Similar to Weinstein, Gaiman has been accused not only of assaulting women, but also of using nondisclosure agreements and paying bribes to silence the alleged victims. Like Weinstein, as well as Bill Cosby, Danny Masterson and others who have stood trial for rape and assault in recent years, the accounts of Gaiman from unconnected women seem to reveal a double MO

Building on information and elements originally published last summer in Tortoise Media’s six-part podcast “Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman,” New York Likess often explicit “There Is No Safe Word” by Lila Shapiro spoke to a total of eight women, three of whom had never gone public before. The alleged attacks on women in their late teens and early 20s, some of which allegedly occurred near Gaiman’s son, occurred at the much older Gaiman’s home in the upstate Empire State. Further incidents occurred in New Zealand when he, his then-wife and Dresden Doll member Amanda Palmer and their child were under Covid lockdown.

CAA representative Gaiman described previous allegations as consensual and denied any assault. But he did not address the new claims, which some say are complicated by nondisclosure agreements and what appear to be ongoing communications from several women with the author.

Both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have projects starring the award-winning Gaiman, such as a second season of Sandman and the now 90-minute final episode of Good omens. While Gaiman retired from showrunning Good omens Last September, when the first round of allegations against him surfaced, none of the streamers responded Monday to Deadline’s requests for comment on the new allegations against the writer/producer. If any of them contact us, this post will be updated.

Weinstein, who is currently under medical supervision and awaiting a new criminal trial on the East Coast for multiple sex crimes, was quickly shunned and condemned by the industry after late 2017 New York Times reveals the decades of abuse and rape he inflicted on young women in and outside of Hollywood. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after a Manhattan jury found the former studio boss guilty in 2020 of raping actress Jessica Mann and sexually assaulting production assistant Miriam Haley. A panel of New York appeals court judges rejected the conviction last April, ruling 4-3 that prosecutors erred by allowing the testimony of other Weinstein accusers whose claims were not tried.

Weinstein, convicted of sex crimes in LA in 2022 and sentenced to 16 years in prison, faces a series of civil lawsuits on both coasts. Weinstein is most recently said to be suffering from leukemia and is suing New York State for $5 million over what he calls “deplorable conditions” at the Rikers Island prison (it’s a prison buddy). A new date for Weinstein’s trial on the East Coast has not yet been set.

In part, the unspecified calendar is because the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is indicating that additional charges against Weinstein are pending. No charges have been brought against Gaiman by authorities in the United States, New Zealand or the United States American Gods Scribe’s home country is not yet in the UK.
