Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson blast Newsom: ‘They ruined this state’

Podcaster Joe Rogan and actor Mel Gibson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) over the recent wildfires in the Golden State.

“I think Newsom said in 2019, ‘You know, I’m going to take care of the forests and preserve the forests and do all these things,'” Gibson said on Rogan’s podcast during a Thursday episode highlighted by Mediaite. “He didn’t do anything.”

Rogan agreed with Gibson: “Beyond that, they turned off the water.”

“Yes, that’s true, yes,” Gibson replied. “It’s all funny. And then I think all of our tax money probably went to Gavin’s hair gel. I don’t know, but it’s, you know, it’s sad, it’s like the place is just on fire.”

“Well, the whole state is just so mismanaged. …It’s so frustrating and confusing, and then he goes on TV and acts like everything is great. “California is the best, we have the best state, we have the greatest economy,” and like, you’re crazy, dude, you ruined this state,” Rogan interrupted, mocking Newsom.

The numerous wildfires that have raged in the Los Angeles area in recent days have devastated the region. On Thursday, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell said on CNN that more than 1,000 structures were destroyed or damaged by the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires.

Beyond the destruction, the fires have also led to a political feud between President-elect Trump and Newsom.

Trump criticized Newsom on Wednesday over the fires burning across the Los Angeles area. The president-elect said California’s governor should have signed a proclamation to pump additional water through the Golden State to avert the situation.

“People are literally fleeing,” Newsom said later Wednesday in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “People have lost their lives. Children have lost their schools, families have been completely torn apart, churches have burned down.”

“This guy wanted to politicize it,” he added, speaking of Trump. “I have a lot of thoughts and I know what I want to say. I won’t.”
