Joel Embiid suffers a fractured sinus in the latest injury nightmare

In what was an unforgettable first half for the 76ers, their biggest star suffered another setback with injury.

Joel Embiid, who left after two quarters of Friday’s 121-107 loss to the Pacers, apparently suffered a ruptured sinus.

The team said Embiid will be reevaluated over the weekend.

A timetable for the return is not yet clear.

In the final seconds of the first half, the Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin attempted a rebound to cover his own miss and inadvertently hit Embiid in the face.

Embiid went to the floor and eventually walked away with a towel over his face.

He did not return to the game and scored 12 points, five assists and four rebounds in 17 minutes.

This year started with Embiid dealing with a knee problem that kept him off the field until November.

He was also suspended three games for shoving a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist.

All told, he only played in six games that year, and the 76ers struggled, finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 7-16 record.

Embiid angered critics in November who raised concerns about durability.

He discussed two previous orbital fractures and his revelation in April that he had mild Bell’s palsy.

“I broke my face twice. “I came back early with the risk of losing my vision,” Embiid told reporters on Friday. “…If I see people saying, ‘He doesn’t want to play,’ then I’ve done way too much for this city and put myself at risk of people saying that. I really think this is bullshit… I’ve done way too much for this damn city to be treated like this.”
