John Tortorella rips the referees after the Flyers’ overtime loss to the Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers’ two-goal lead over the Bruins faded in the third period as Trent Frederic and Brad Marchand each scored to force overtime at TD Garden on Saturday.

Fiery Flyers head coach Joh Tortorella beat the referees – and if we’re being honest – the Bruins after Pavel Zacha scored Boston’s overtime winner at 2:49 of the extra frame.

“Let me start. One thing I teach my team is not to dive,” he said in a video provided by the team. “Maybe I should teach them that. The way this went, the way this (expletive) continues, maybe I should teach them to dive.”

The Flyers received eight penalties in the game, while the Bruins received four penalties. Philadelphia took a 1-2 lead due to the man advantage. The Bruins went 1 for 6, and Tortorella obviously felt the Bruins would have benefited from the decisions.

“I’m not going to get too caught up in it,” he continued on the penalty shootout. “It’s one of the things we talk about most as a team: we have to play an honest game. There is no cheating. There are no embarrassing referees. They don’t embarrass the referees. The (expletive) that happened here tonight is just ridiculous.

“… I’m proud of the way our team played. Do we have (expletive) another way? Yes, but other people had a bit to do with it too.”

Boston’s overtime win gave the Bruins their fourth straight victory. The Black and Gold embark on a five-game road trip that begins Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets.

On the other side of the ice, the Flyers will look to put a stop to their two-game break when they host the Utah Hockey Club at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.
