John Travolta’s “Grease” and “Pulp Fiction” top the charts on Pluto

Two of John Travolta’s most famous films top the Pluto charts. Fat (1978) and pulp Fiction (1994) are currently streaming for free and are ranked #6 and #7 respectively. Both films were popular and influential upon their debut and have stood the test of time as new generations have discovered both. And the two films couldn’t be more different: one is a musical and the other a crime thriller with a non-linear structure.

Travolta just came out of his hit film, Saturday Night Fever in 1977, when Fat A year later, the film opened and became a popular hit, grossing nearly $160 million at the domestic box office against a budget of $6 million (not counting releases). The instant classic about a greaser named Danny (Travolta) who falls in love with Sandy (Olivia Newton John), a wealthy girl. cemented his status as a major movie star and is considered one of the greatest musicals of all time.

At the time pulp Fiction Travolta’s career, which opened in October 1994, was more or less stalled. His ode to crime stories and non-linear narratives delighted both audiences and critics and currently sits at 92% critics and 96% Fresh audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pulp Fiction’s The influence also spawned a host of imitatorsincluding Things to do in Denver when you’re dead And Lock, storage and two incense barrels. Even Go (1999), directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) and written by John August (Big fish) features similar narratives and a non-linear structure.

And unlike his colleagues, Tarantino never became a fully mainstream director, instead focusing on films like Jackie BrownKill Bill Vols. 1 and 2 (he sees them as one film in two parts) and Django Unchained. He claimed he will only direct one more film after his ninth, Once upon a time in Hollywoodwhich debuted in 2019.

There is no information yet about what his tenth and final film will be after he calls it quits The Critic Early 2024. Set in the 1970s, the film starred Brad Pitt and followed a film critic who wrote for a magazine like Playboy and was inspired by Pauline Kael, an influential critic.
