Johntay Cook II moving from the Texas Longhorns to the Florida Gators instead of the Oregon Ducks?

One of the most coveted players in the transfer portal, former Texas Longhorns receiver Johntay Cook II, is expected to go to the Florida Gators rather than the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies and Texas A&M Aggies.

After visiting Florida coach Billy Napiers’ Gators and meeting quarterback DJ Lagway, On3 predicted Cook II will be a Gator.

The Oregon Ducks have been linked to Cook II since he was recruited in high school. Oregon and Texas A&M were also the first two teams to keep an eye on during his recruitment through the portal. Cook II also just visited Washington.

If Cook II actually decides to transfer to Florida, it will extend the Gators’ hot streak.

Florida handed over five-star receiver Dallas Wilson from the Oregon Ducks’ 2025 recruiting class. Wilson had been committed to Oregon coach Dan Lanning’s Ducks since January 2023. Oregon released Wilson from his financial aid agreement because the Tampa Bay Tech prospect from Tampa, Florida, reportedly wants to live closer to a sick family member.

Cook announced in November that he was entering the portal after catching eight passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns and playing a backup role for Texas.

During his high school recruitment, Cook traveled to Eugene on an official visit in June 2022. His five finalists at the time were Michigan, Texas, Florida, Jackson State and Texas A&M.

Since entering the portal, Cook II has posted a lot about Oregon on social media. Cook II reposted photos he took during his official visit to Oregon in 2022 and responded to posts from other accounts that floated the idea of Cook II collaborating with new five-star receiver Dakorien Moore and current Ducks -Receiver Evan Stewart came up.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning might have three Texas prospects at receiver next season if Stewart decides to stay another year and Cook II chooses Oregon. Cook II (DeSoto), Stewart (Frisco) and five-star receiver recruit Dakorien Moore (Duncanville) all reign supreme in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Currently, Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class is ranked No. 5 in the country with six incoming transfer commitments, according to On3 Rankings. New Ducks players include:

Jamari Johnson – Redshirt freshman tight end, Louisville

Dillon Thieneman – Sophomore safety, Purdue

Theran Johnson – Redshirt junior cornerback, Northwestern

Alex Harkey – Senior Offensive Tackle, Texas State

Isaiah World – Redshirt junior offensive tackle, Nevada

Bear Alexander – Junior Defensive Tackle, USC

Lanning is a tireless recruiter when it comes to finding and signing elite talent through the transfer portal, having been a top-10 transfer portal class the last three years. Receiver is a position Oregon could address in the portal with top receiver senior Tez Johnson departing at the end of this season.
