Jonathan Bennett reveals that the confetti are popular wishes

In an interview with People magazinethe actor revealed his favorite part of celebrating New Year’s Eve in New York City – a surprising nod to the iconic confetti.

“Every New Year’s Eve, when that confetti showers everyone celebrating, those are actually what people want,” Bennett revealed. “You stand there and are showered with so many people’s wishes for the New Year. There’s just something really special about it, and that’s what I love about New Year’s Eve in Times Square.”

The Hallmark actor then told the outlet that “a new year is a symbol of a new beginning” and the confetti “is a symbol, a literal physical symbol, of everyone’s wishes for the new year.”

“I think we always have wishes for hope, we wish for better days, a better life, there are so many wishes that people have for the new year,” he said. “There’s just something really special about just pouring it on you.”

Bennett also explained that the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, the organizations behind the iconic ball drop, play a key role in ensuring that every wish finds its place on a piece of confetti. These wishes will be collected either on the Wishing Wall in Times Square or through submissions on the official event website.

“They care so much about using real wishes and making sure that every wish that goes in the box gets there,” the actor added.

Bennett said one of the wishes was “almost blown away.”

Reflecting on a memorable moment with Jeffrey A. Straus, president of Countdown Entertainment, Bennett recounted an instance “when one of the wishes was almost blown away.” He recalled saying, “I thought, ‘Oh, we almost lost that,’ and Jeff immediately replied, ‘Get it back in the box.’ Bennett continued: “I looked at him and he said, ‘That’s someone’s wish.'”

The actor added how important it is for people: “So when you write down your wish, it arrives till the drop. I think that’s what makes Times Square and New Year’s Eve so special.”
