Josh Allen has a big lead over Lamar Jackson and others

The 2024 NFL season is upon us and there is a clear front-runner for league MVP winner.

Week 17 begins on Christmas Day and is the start of a period which will see five days of football. With only two weeks left in the regular season, MVP candidates only have a few games left to prove why they’re the best player in the NFL while trying to prepare their team for a Super Bowl run – themselves if a player appears to do this the award is already in hand.

Here’s what the latest NFL MVP odds look like as of Tuesday, December 24, courtesy of BetMGM.

NFL MVP odds as of Week 17

1. QB Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (-500)

The Bills quarterback had one of his worst games of the season in the win over the Patriots, but remains a heavy favorite to win his first MVP award. In the 24-21 win, Allen went 16 of 29 for 154 yards with one touchdown and one interception and six rushes for 30 yards. He had a passer rating of 67.3, his lowest since Week 10.

Next up for Allen is a visit to the Jets, who have the fifth-best pass defense in the league.

2. QB Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens (+350)

The reigning MVP still has a chance of becoming a three-time award winner after two nice games in recent weeks. Last week in a win over the Steelers, Jackson went 15-for-23 for 207 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also had nine carries for 22 yards. In the last two weeks, he threw eight touchdowns with just one interception.

In his next assignment, Jackson will play against a Texas team that is one of the better units at stopping the pass.

3. RB Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles (+1400)

Even in defeat, Barkley continues to run at all defenders as he approaches a 2,000-yard season. Against the Commanders, Barkley ran the ball 29 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns, the 10th time he eclipsed the century mark this season.

The Eagles running back should take advantage of his chances of having another big day in Week 17 when he faces a Cowboys team that has one of the worst rushing defenses in the league.

4. QB Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (+2500)

The NFC leader’s signal caller had another big day last week against the Bears with 336 passing yards and three touchdowns. It was the fifth time he threw for at least 300 yards in a game.

Goff will be back on “Monday Night Football” against the 49ers, who, for all their problems this season, continue to have a solid pass defense.

T-5. QB Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (+10000)

Part of the duel for fifth place is the two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP. After suffering an injury the week before, Mahomes went 28-41 against the Texans for 260 yards and a touchdown and five carries for 33 yards and a touchdown. He hasn’t turned the ball over in the last three weeks.

Mahomes, who leads the AFC’s No. 1 seed, will next play against the powerful Steelers on Christmas Day.

T-5. QB Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings (+10000)

Leading one of the biggest surprises of the season is Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold. In the win over the Seahawks, he went 22 of 35 for 246 yards and three touchdowns, giving him 10 straight games with at least 200 passing yards.

Next up, Darnold faces a hot Packers team that was coming off a shutout against the Saints. However, Darnold played well against them earlier this season with a 275-yard, three-touchdown, one-interception performance at Lambeau Field in September.
