Juan Soto’s decision is imminent | Will Yankees or Mets win sweepstakes?

DALLAS – The moment the baseball world has been waiting for over the offseason is upon us.

According to Andy Martino of SNY and Mike Puma of the New York Post, Juan Soto is expected to make his decision in free agency on Sunday night.

Major League Baseball met at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas on Sunday ahead of the Winter Meetings. In recent weeks, the consensus throughout the industry has been that Soto will make his decision either during the winter meetings or before they begin. It’s only fitting that Soto and agent Scott Boras steal the show on Sunday night, setting off a domino effect of signings and acquisitions across the league.

Will the Yankees be able to keep the superstar outfielder in pinstripes after his career year? Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has made it clear that re-signing Soto is a top priority this winter and is reported to have offered Soto more than $700 million. He’s willing to go to record lengths and sacrifice his financial flexibility to keep Soto in the Bronx.

However, the Mets and deep-pocketed owner Steve Cohen could swoop Soto and seal the deal. They are also reportedly offering over $700 million, a figure that could rise as negotiations come to a conclusion.

And then there are the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Dodgers, the other big-name suitors still banking on the outfielder of the generation. Boston has been viewed as a threat to these New York clubs throughout this process, but it’s unclear if they have the offer – or recruiting ability – to swoop in and snag Soto. Toronto and Los Angeles are considered future prospects.
