Judy Greer could possibly have played along Modern family!

The 49-year-old actress recently revealed that she had the chance to audition for the Emmy Award ABC comedy, but she declined.

When appearing on Modern family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s Podcast Dinner is on meshe talked about skipping the show and why she didn’t want to be there at that time.

“This was a time in my career where I started (playing characters with children),” she said, recalling that she was asked to audition for Claire Dunphy, which she eventually did Julie Bowen.

“It sounds so silly saying it out loud now, but I’m being honest.” Judy added. “In a film I would have a child. And then there was this audition opportunity where I had three kids, one in high school, and on a TV show… and of course you have to think about those things when it comes to success Modern family was a great success. In a movie, people kind of see it and then forget about it. On a TV show, it’s like being a mother.”

The actress explained that she “didn’t even want kids” in real life, noting, “It wasn’t even on the table for me. I thought, “I guess I’m not going to audition for this.” I was really torn, but in the end it obviously wasn’t that way. Who knows if I would have gotten it, but I just thought, ‘I don’t know if I want to be America’s mother yet.'”

Judy adding she just wasn’t ready for the commitment Modern family would have been necessary.

“In addition to just the perception of who you are as an actor. It’s also a lifestyle,” she said. “I thought, well, I really like traveling, I like making all these movies, I like going to all these places and I like meeting all these people.”

However, she continued to work Modern family co-creator Steven Levitan Years later on his Hulu series Restart.
