Justin Herbert and the Chargers lament their inability to “score more points” in loss to the Ravens.

After a good start, the Los Angeles Chargers couldn’t stay on the way to a medal; an offensive lull in the second half led to a 30:23 defeat against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jim Harbaugh’s club scored the first 10 points of the game, but the inability to beat it into the end zone while the Ravens gobbled up touchdowns like they were Thanksgiving drumsticks proved the difference.

“We would have liked to have more points. We just needed a few more conversions,” Harbaugh said after his club’s loss dropped to 7-4.

The Ravens outgained the Chargers by 130 total yards in the second half on Monday night – 83 yards to 217. The bulk of LA’s yards came on its final TD drive, trailing by 14 points. Two three-pointers in the fourth quarter proved costly.

“I appreciate the way the guys battled and battled at the end,” quarterback Justin Herbert said. “It’s an unfortunate ending. We wanted to get more points, but we didn’t manage to do that. You have to look back to get those chances in the red zone and make sure we convert in the third period. “I think we did a good job of limiting the turnovers, keeping the ball and doing everything we can. We just have to get more points.”

Playing without running back JK Dobbins in the second half after a knee injury robbed the Chargers offense of a dynamic backfield weapon. The difference in the last two quarters with the defense was noticeable. Drops and an inefficient passing attack didn’t help either. Herbert completed 21 of 36 passes for 218 yards and took four sacks.

Herbert’s team moved the ball early and hit it into the end zone on their only two red zone trips of the day, but between bookend touchdowns the club struggled to sustain drives and was eliminated. LA went 5 of 14 on third downs of the contest.

“I think there are opportunities to go out there and we showed that we have the ability to go out there and score in the second half,” the quarterback said. “It’s obviously a tough game and we would like to get more points. We just have to keep going and do everything we can. I think we moved the ball well. We just have to score points in the red zone.” . We can’t rely on (kicker) Cameron Dicker to save us like that.”

The Chargers fell to 1-4 in 2024 against teams that are .500 or better. They are 6-0 against teams under .500. Three of LA’s remaining six games come against teams that are .500 or better and will clinch a playoff spot.
