Juventus 4-0 Cagliari (December 17, 2024) Match analysis

Defending champions Juventus reached the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Cagliari on Tuesday thanks to goals from Dusan Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceicao and Nicolas Gonzalez.

Juventus, the most successful team in the competition’s history with 15 trophies, hosts Empoli in the next round, while Cagliari will return to focus on the Serie A relegation battle.

Vlahovic, at the center of Juventus fans’ anger after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Venezia, this time soaked up the applause and scored a goal a minute before half-time.

Eight minutes into the second half, Koopmeiners scored a second direct goal from a free kick, Conceicao netted ten minutes from time before Gonzalez secured the win in the 89th minute.

Cagliari got out of the blocks quickest when Gianluca Lapadula forced Juve keeper Michele Di Gregorio into a close-range save in the first minute, but the home side took control after that.

Vlahovic shot past the edge of the six-yard box from a tight angle before Kenan Yildiz had an acrobatic volley saved by defender Mateusz Wieteska.

Conceicao then curled a shot from outside the penalty area just past the far post and had a similar shot on goal a few minutes later, which Cagliari keeper Simone Scuffet made a save.

Cagliari held out almost until half-time, but when Vlahovic received a pass from Yildiz in the penalty area with his back to goal, he controlled the ball, turned and fired his shot through Wieteska’s legs and past the far post.

Juventus doubled their lead when Koopmeiners fired his free-kick well outside the penalty area over the wall and into the top corner and had little trouble sealing the win.

Vlahovic had the ball in the net twice in the second half, both ruled out for offside, but Conceicao finally got the goal his performance deserved, shooting inside from the right and directing his finish into the far bottom corner.

Substitute Gonzalez went solo before throwing over the goalkeeper as Juventus, who have drawn their last four league games, continue to enjoy success in cup competitions and also beat Manchester City in the Champions League last week.
