Juventus player ratings vs Aston Villa: Locatelli thwarts the villains

On matchday five of the Champions League group stage, Aston Villa and Juventus shared the spoils in Birmingham. Both teams had their chances, but neither of them managed to hit the net, even though the Villains thought they had won the game with the last kick of the game, but the referee disallowed it because of a foul on Michele Di Gregorio . Here are our player ratings for Juventus, who fell to mid-table after a goalless draw at Villa Park.

Juventus (4-2-3-1)

Michele Di Gregorio – 6.5

The Italian goalkeeper was saved by the referee’s decision after an unconvincing finish. Although the push was certainly there, he took full advantage of getting the call. He also made a few strong saves right from the start.

Nicolò Savona – 6

A defensively solid performance from the Juventus youngster, who was able to keep up with John McGinn in terms of speed and tenacity, but was almost not present in the attacking phase.

Pierre Kalulu – 6.5

The Frenchman started brilliantly and frustrated Ollie Watkins in his personal duel. But as the game progressed he started to lose some ground and allowed free kicks in dangerous positions.

Federico Gatti – 7

A fabulous defensive performance from the Italian international, who confidently fended off every ball that came his way.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5

A good performance from the former Genoa player who did his best to drive the ball forward, even if his attacking involvement was lower than usual. He also kept Leon Bailey at bay.

Khephren Thuram – 7

The summer newcomer from Juventus Turin prevailed in most of his duels against his colleagues from Aston Villa. Won the ball back countless times and helped move it forward.

Manuel Locatelli – 7.5

A great performance from the Juventus stand-in captain, who was a real wall in front of the defense. He dropped deep to support his teammates in defense whenever needed and even scored a free kick on the goal line. He always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

Francisco Conceicao – 6.5

The Portuguese looked inspired on the left, causing havoc almost every time he received the ball. Tested Emi Martinez with a low shot in the first half and was inches away from seeing his header over the line.

Teun Koopmeiners – 5

Apart from a few decent set balls, the former Atalanta man was barely noticeable on the pitch. The Bianconeri Fans are starting to become very concerned about his disappointing form.

Kenan Yildiz – 6

The Turkish teenager had his moments, including a few nice cuts from the left, but there were too few to influence the result.

Timothy Weah – 5.5

The USMNT star can be excused as he was playing in unfamiliar territory and Dusan Vlahovic was sidelined due to injury. Couldn’t feel his impact in the penalty area and didn’t help much in the build-up to the game.

Substitute

Danilo – 6

A decent performance from the original Juventus captain, even if he wasn’t an improvement over Savona going forward.
