Kalen DeBoer press conference: Live updates following Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl

Alabama football ends its season with a loss to Michigan for the second straight year.

The Wolverines turned Alabama’s disastrous first quarter into a 19-13 victory over the Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

That means Alabama finishes with a 9-4 record, its first 10-win season since 2007, Nick Saban’s first year as coach of the Crimson Tide.

After the loss, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer held his postgame press conference. Here is a summary of some of his statements.

Live updates from Kalen DeBoer’s press conference

  • We dug ourselves a hole in the first quarter. The turnovers gave them excellent field position.”
  • “I loved the team’s fight” toward the end of the first half.
  • “I just need to get a few drives in there at the end of the fourth quarter.”
  • DeBoer said he wants the guys coming back to remember that feeling.
  • DeBoer said “No, I haven’t” when asked if he was considering a change at quarterback since Jalen Milroe struggled early. “I saw a fighter. The fight in his eyes. As long as I see that, I want to stick with the guys that this program means a lot to.”
  • DeBoer asked if this season was successful. “I think there’s a lot of things to take away from this. “People see what happens on Saturday but it’s the guys who choose to stay here. People who choose to move from one week to the next when you’re kind of on a rollercoaster ride in the middle of the season.”
  • DeBoer said Alabama needs to learn from the mistakes in this game next year. “We will learn from these lessons, move forward and be better next year as a result.”
  • DeBoer on inability to maintain momentum in second half: “It was the losses that hurt us. A sack that is behind the chains. That’s what they live by.”
  • DeBoer on his time with Jalen Milroe: “I think everyone would probably feel the same way I did. The guy always talks about the team. He always talks about his teammates. It’s not about him. He’s going in that direction every day in our program.” … “The fight in him, the ability to move forward … I think that’s an area where he’s really improved, especially the last one half of the season. I think our guys appreciate that about him.”
