Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson shares his biggest regret this season

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson was asked Tuesday afternoon about one thing he regretted this season.

He simply said, “Lose games.” But more specifically, he was referring to the Wildcats’ stunning loss to BYU earlier in the season.

“I don’t like losing,” Johnson said. “If I could make up for the losses, it would probably be the BYU game. I feel like I let my team down as a leader in this game. Obviously my game would have implemented what was just out of character for me and tried to force things that I don’t normally do in these situations.

Johnson went 15 of 28 for 130 yards and two interceptions against BYU, his worst performance of the year. His two picks gave them 14 points and put the Wildcats in an early hole.

But even then, Johnson said he doesn’t necessarily regret that performance, as he used it as a learning moment for the rest of the season. He didn’t have another multi-interception performance until Kansas State’s loss to Houston in November.

“I wouldn’t say I have any regrets because I think that game was crucial to my development and only helped me,” Johnson said.

The Wildcats play Rutgers (7-5) in the Rate Bowl on Thursday night.
