Karoline Striplin’s perfect day leads Indiana to its opening conference win over Penn State

Indiana women’s basketball posted a decisive win over Penn State 75-60 on the road in its Big Ten opener, recording its seventh straight conference opener. The Hoosiers are now 7-3 (1-0 Big Ten) and have a week off before facing Bellarmine next Sunday.

Indiana junior Yarden Garzon scored 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting (6 of 10 from 3-point range) in the win, while Penn State transfer Shay Ciezki, returning to her former stomping grounds, had five points and six assists and three rebounds.

But on Saturday Karoline Striplin stole the show.

Karoline Striplin’s perfect day leads Hoosiers to victory

Striplin had a historic day in the Hoosiers conference opener.

The Tennessee transfer shot 12-for-12 from the field on Saturday, becoming just the second player in program history to record a perfect shooting percentage on at least 10 attempts. The first was the program’s leading scorer and current assistant Mackenzie Holmes, who posted a perfect shooting percentage twice in her five-year career as a Hoosier – going 13-13 against Eastern Kentucky in 2020 and 10-10 against Auburn in 2022.

Striplin, who splits time in the post with starter Lilly Meister, had the most minutes against Penn State. She was crucial throughout the game – first, her eight points in the first half helped Indiana stay in the game tied at halftime.

Then the third quarter was entirely reserved for her.

Striplin scored 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the third period, accounting for all but six of the Hoosiers’ points in the quarter. This aggressive quarter helped Indiana pull away from Penn State as the Hoosiers led by as many as 15 over the course of the game.

She finished the game with 27 points, just two shy of her career high of 29.
