Kate Winslet’s Titanic reunion with actor Jonathan Evans-Jones

At Abbey Road Studios in London, Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet sat at a mixing console and listened intently as an orchestra played a scene from her latest film, “Lee.”

“Lee” is the true story of Lee Miller, a photojournalist who fought her way to the front in World War II.

The film was a passion project for Winslet. She was involved in almost every aspect of the production, at one point even paying the crew out of her own pocket.

Recording the score was no different: Winslet wanted to be there. And a 60 Minutes team was there too.

After recording a take, Winslet thanked the musicians via a talkback microphone.

“We are really grateful to all of you for being here and doing this because it really brings something extremely important to life,” she said.

After the session, the musicians began to pack up and made their way out of the studio.

Winslet seemed surprised to see a familiar face in the orchestra: Jonathan Evans-Jones, the actor and violinist who starred as a band member aboard the titular ship in the James Cameron film “Titanic.”

Winslet rushed to Evans-Jones and hugged him, clearly pleased to see him.

“I regularly meet people who were on the Titanic crew and we always see each other and say, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God,'” Winslet told 60 Minutes correspondent Cecilia Vega.

“There is something special about having been at a club that experienced something that was so challenging and hard. And everyone was separated from their families and we were all in it together. And it was that time in our lives that we will never forget.”

Winslet mentioned that there are “tons” of stories about the making of the film that may never be discussed publicly.

Vega asked if there was anything that would surprise her.

“No, I won’t tell you,” Winslet said, laughing.
