Keenan Allen is talking about a Chargers reunion again

Whether former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen will return to the team this coming offseason is a constant point of discussion.

This isn’t just fan speculation, as Allen himself has openly suggested a return to Los Angeles.

Allen apparently raised the possibility again this week. According to the Chicago Sun Times“Patrick Finley, Allen, said he would like to play in Los Angeles next season if he doesn’t rejoin the Chicago Bears.

“I need to discuss it with the wife and children to find out what they want to do,” Allen said, according to Finley. “The city is first class, the food is great.”

Allen could choose to move his family from LA to Chicago if he re-signs with the Bears. However, the direction the team takes as head coach could influence his decision.

What that doesn’t say is whether the Chargers would actually be interested. It’s easy to handwave – Allen is a franchise legend and wideout is, after all, one of the team’s biggest offseason needs.

But Allen is now 32 years old and has struggled in Chicago. The Chargers prioritized pass rush over wideouts last offseason. Since then, rookie Ladd McConkey has had a breakthrough. A new regime could easily want to expand the roster in its own way via the draft, if not for other veterans with some of that generous cap space.

Still, the Chargers need to complete a playoff bid before they can consider it. Allen has since made his plans for the offseason – LA or Chicago – very clear.
