Keira Knightley found the scene from ‘Love Actually’ ‘pretty scary’

More than 20 years later, the world is looking back at one of Keira Knightley’s groundbreaking roles from a new perspective.

Although the audience has come to see them Actually love While the scene involving Mark’s (Andrew Lincoln) cue cards has been considered less romantic over the years, the two-time Oscar nominee admitted she thought it was a “pretty creepy” way to express her love for her character Juliet during filming .

“The slightly stalkerish aspect of it – I remember that,” Knightley told the Los Angeles Times. “I remember (director) Richard (Curtis), who is now a very dear friend, filming the scene and he said, ‘No, you’re looking at (Lincoln) like he’s scary,’ and I.” I say (in a dramatic whisper), ‘But it’s pretty scary.’ And then I had to do it again to correct my face so he wouldn’t look scary.”

In the 2003 Christmas romantic comedy, Juliet marries Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) while his best friend Mark films the ceremony. After Juliet finds out that Mark only filmed her during the reception, he finally declares his love for her with a series of clue cards outside her house, while Peter is inside watching TV and has the impression that the carolers are at her door.

Knightley also addressed the age difference behind the scenes, which has caused some controversy in recent years, as the actress was 17, Lincoln was 30, and Ejiofors was 26.

“I mean, there was a creep factor back then, right? Plus, I knew I was 17,” she noted. “It feels like it was only a few years ago that everyone else realized I was 17.”

Knightley’s appearance in the popular Christmas ensemble came months after her breakthrough role in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Curtis’ new holiday film This Christmashis first animated film, based on his children’s books, premiered on Netflix last week.

“I really love Christmas,” Curtis said at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June. “Whenever I think of stories, this is the first place I think of.”
