Kentucky Wildcats highlights, MVP and Twitter reactions to crazy win over Colgate Basketball

The Kentucky Wildcats took the floor Wednesday night, aiming to avoid a hangover after their emotional 90-89 overtime win over Gonzaga over the weekend.

Standing in their way was a 2-8 Colgate team from the Patriot League. The Raiders’ last win came before Thanksgiving against UNC Wilmington.

Understandably, Great Britain were the clear favorites before the start with 31.5 points.

Unfortunately, the biggest story surrounding Kentucky basketball has been the health of their backcourt.

We now know that Kerr Kriisa will be out for several weeks due to his injury, while starting point guard LaMont Butler’s health remains questionable.

Shortly before the game, Butler was officially ruled out. It obviously made sense to give him three more days of rest to prepare him for Saturday’s game against Louisville.

As for tonight’s game – it seemed to be over after a timeout of less than 16 minutes…

Only it wasn’t.

Kentucky stormed out to a 17-0 lead and seemed to decide the game in an instant.

The Raiders had other plans.

After starting the game 10-0, Colgate caught fire and somehow went into halftime only two points behind.

Weathering UK’s early blitz was truly impressive and caused frustration and confusion among the crowd at Rupp Arena.

It didn’t stop there.

Colgate came out obsessed in the second half, scoring from all angles while Kentucky remained cool.

The Cats trailed 47-46 with 15 minutes to play before back-to-back 3s from Jaxson Robinson gave them some breathing room. Both Trent Noah and Otega Oweh scored from deep shortly after and Great Britain never looked back en route to a 78-67 victory.

It was a crazy game that’s best just forgotten. In some ways, it was impressive to see Kentucky prevail after two road games and still win the game by double digits.

Saturday’s game at Louisville will be one of the biggest of the season, so hopefully the Cats can improve their game.

Highlights

MVP

There was no standout highlight in Kentucky’s rollercoaster ride Wednesday night.

After starting the game 17-0 and giving up the lead, it took a team effort and some perseverance to avoid a terrible defeat.

I recognize Koby Brea as MVP for his great outside shooting and reaching 1,000 points in his college career.

Brea continues to spark from deep, and tonight against Colgate the Cats really needed it. Without his clutch failure, looking back, this would have been a very difficult evening.

Koby Brea went 5-8 from behind the arc and scored 17 points.
