“Yellowstone” star Denim Richards sadly left the series when his character Colby died – but he’s still around for a video series called “Stories from the Bunkhouse,” where he joins his co-stars in each episode after it airs Ian Bohen and discusses Jefferson White. (Videos are available on YouTube.)

Ahead of the hit ranch drama’s finale, which airs Sunday, Richards reminisced, telling The Post about the cast’s first tabletop performance before the series premiered in 2018.

“Everyone gets together and (Kevin Costner) comes in. “He has a huge presence, but he’s so humble,” Richards recalls.

“Everyone is getting ready to get up from the table and read and go outside. (Costner) said, ‘I don’t know about you, but I’m scared as hell.’ So why not come together as best we can and make this happen and support each other?'”

After Costner spoke, he added: “You could feel the stress disappearing from the room. It was a beautiful thing. This is an Oscar-winning legend…whether he was truly scared or not, who knows. But it gave everyone that extra level of security that there was no hierarchy.”

“Yellowstone” is about the Dutton family, the owners of the largest ranch in Montana. The focus is on patriarch John (Costner), who was also governor before his death, and his adult children Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Beth’s husband Rip (Cole Hauser).

The cowboy drama was a hit: 17 million viewers watched the premiere of the second half of the fifth season.

Season 5 is supposedly the final season. However, it was reported on Wednesday that Reilly and Hauser have inked deals to direct a spin-off show about Beth and Rip. In August, several media outlets also reported that a sixth season was in the works, but Paramount never announced or confirmed this. According to reports, the Beth and Rip show will be a separate spin-off show, not the sixth season.

Richards played Colby, one of the ranch hands who was killed by a horse.

Costner, 69, meanwhile, left the series after the first half of season five amid rumors of a feud with creator Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan initially told The Hollywood Reporter that Costner prioritized his box office hit “Horizon” over “Yellowstone.”

Costner disputed that report as “a bullshit story,” telling Deadline, “I agreed with (Taylor Sheridan) straight away and he said what we were going to do and I believed him, but we didn’t get it done.”

When the second half of season five premiered on November 10, the series dealt with Costner’s absence by killing John in a hitman attack that was initially made to look like a suicide (but by this point in the series, everyone knows it). was a murder).

Regarding the drama surrounding Costner’s departure, Richards told The Post: “Of course you do what you can to silence everything from the outside. As you know, sometimes things happen and then they don’t happen.”

He continued: “Things are leaked and discussed. It’s never always exactly what people necessarily see sometimes.”

“For us, I realize this is out of my pay grade. “You can’t worry about how things are going to happen,” he continued. “I think of myself as a boat in the sea. You can’t control how all the waves move. Just make sure you have a sturdy boat that can handle any waves. There were things that went back and forth… you do your best.”

The fifth season finale of “Yellowstone” airs Sunday, December 15 (8 p.m.) on Paramount Network.
