Kevin Durant’s 37 weren’t enough, Devin Booker was injured as the Suns lost to the Pacers

Kevin Durant scored a game-high 37 points in the third quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ 120-111 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday and Devin Booker left the game with a groin injury.

Indiana extended its winning streak to three and ended Phoenix’s short winning streak with two wins.

There has been a rotation of injuries this season among the Suns’ Big 3 of Durant, Booker and Bradley Beal, who returned Thursday after missing the previous two games because of right knee swelling. Beal had 16 points, two rebounds and a block.

Booker, who appeared in every game this season, finished the game with 17 points, six assists, two boards and a steal before heading to the locker room.

Seven Indiana players, including all five starters, scored in double figures. Pascal Siakam led the team with 25 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton scored 13 points and a game-high 12 assists.

The Suns led by their largest lead of eight early in the first quarter, but the Pacers took control from there.

Royce O’Neale (nine points, three rebounds) went 3-0, cutting Indiana’s lead to 60-59 at the break. This capped off a 12:5 run by the Suns, sparked by their Big 3 in the second quarter.

Durant scored eight of his 10 points, Beal added five of his eight points and Devin Booker had a game-high 16.

The Suns’ offense was sluggish and had trouble controlling the ball. They had 10 turnovers, which the Pacers converted into 18 points.

The Suns recorded their 10th turnover when Obi Toppin (13 Pacers points) picked off Beal at 5:23. Haliburton (seven points, five assists) picked up the loose ball and hit it to the wide-open Toppin, who completed his signature Eastbay dunk. Toppin jumped and switched the ball from left to right hand before punching it in, extending the Pacers’ lead to 52-45.

The Pacers live up to their name, outscoring the Suns in fast break points 14-2. So far, however, the Suns have dominated with 24:14.

The Pacers’ best scorer so far are Andrew Nembhard’s seven points.
