Key player is out for the Lakers-Warriors NBA Christmas game

LeBron James and Steph Curry on Christmas is an NBA tradition that has lasted nearly a decade. Things continue tonight when the Golden State Warriors take on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Both the Lakers and Warriors have had very volatile seasons full of extreme ups and downs. The Warriors started the season 12-3 and have gone 3-10 since then. Both the Lakers and Warriors lost their last game and should come out of this tonight with real desperation.

As the Lakers look to avoid a two-game losing streak, they will be without one of their key players.

The Los Angeles Lakers have downgraded D’Angelo Russell from questionable to out due to a sprained left thumb. Before this injury, Russell had played in every Lakers game this season except one.

In 28 games this season, Russell averaged 12.5 points, 4.7 assists and 2.8 rebounds on 42/34/85 shooting from the field. His role with the Lakers has fluctuated over the last two seasons, but he remains a key component off the bench when he’s hot. Against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, Russell had 20 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds on 54/43/75 shooting from the field.

The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers meet tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST.
