Kiké Hernández wanted to “pay back” Dodgers fans.

Kiké Hernández wanted to “pay back” Dodgers fans.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reacquired Kiké Hernández at the 2023 MLB trade deadline and ultimately re-signed him to a one-year contract through the 2024 season.

The utility man struggled most of the year, but he rose to the occasion and helped the Dodgers win their eighth World Series title in franchise history.

Hernández hit .294/.357/.451 with a triple, two home runs and six RBI in 14 postseason games, including a 5-for-18 performance against the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic.

A fan favorite in his two stints with the Dodgers, Hernández said on The Shop that he wanted to thank everyone who has supported him over the years:

“From the moment I arrived in LA, it has been a humbling experience for me to have a fan base that embraces and loves me the way they do. The support. I’m someone who’s probably a better player than the back of my card says when it comes to numbers. I bring more than just my stats, and the way they love me, you’d think I’m the best player on the field every day I step on a baseball field.

“That’s not nearly the case, but thanks. There is nothing I value more than everything they offer me. From the bottom of my heart, I’ve always said that I never know how I can repay this fan base for the way they love me, but this year I signed late, showed up late to spring training, and joined a team that has great expectations I thought the best way to return the favor to this fan base would be if I got my chance in October to do my thing and help this team win. I feel like that’s exactly what I did.”

Hernández went to two World Series championships with the Dodgers, playing a big role in the postseason each time.

He is a career .278/.353/.522 hitter with seven doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 35 RBI in 86 postseason games, including 75 with LA

The 33-year-old is now a free agent and made it clear that he prefers to re-sign with the Dodgers.

Kiké Hernández enjoyed Dodgers fans embracing the F-Bomb interview

Hernández’s home run against the San Diego Padres in Game 5 of the National League Division Series helped the Dodgers avoid elimination and continue their postseason journey.

After the game, Hernández dropped an uncensored profanity during an interview with MLB insider Ken Rosenthal on live television.

While it upset some, Hernández believes the moment made the Dodgers’ postseason run a little more entertaining because of how fans received it.
