“Kingstown’s surface is different than the World Cup,” Litton said

Bangladesh stand-in captain Litton Das believes the pitch in Kingstown, St Vincent, has undergone significant changes since the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

As Bangladesh prepares for the three-match T20 series against the West Indies starting December 16, Litton is confident that the changed conditions could work in their favour.

“The wicket now seems different to what we experienced during the World Cup. When we trained yesterday it didn’t feel the same anymore. Maybe they prepared it differently,” Litton revealed in a video released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

During the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh struggled at Kingstown on slow and low surfaces reminiscent of Mirpur where scoring runs was a challenge.

They scored totals of 159, 106 and 115 in their three games and managed to win two of them despite struggling to adapt to the sluggish pitch.

However, Litton is confident the conditions could provide a better chance for his side this time.

Facing the West Indies at home is never easy and Litton was aware of the difficulty of the task ahead. “T20 games are always tough for us, especially in West Indies’ home conditions,” he said. “We will try to overcome the challenges and do well in the series.”

Bangladesh go into the series without several key players, including regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, but Litton feels the team’s preparation has been thorough.

“There is no lack of preparation. Most of our players are ready to play as they have participated in Tests and ODIs. Even the newer players had a chance to practice during training sessions,” he explained.

The T20 series offers Bangladesh a chance to regroup after a disappointing 3-0 defeat in the previous ODI series.

Litton is determined to mount a comeback and adapt to the changing conditions. “We haven’t finalized the team composition yet but we will select the best possible XI based on the conditions. Everyone will do their best on the field,” he said.

The first T20 match will begin on December 16 at 6:00 a.m. Bangladesh time and the remaining two matches are scheduled for December 18 and 20 at the same venue.

Litton’s final message underscored his team’s intent: “We’re going to focus on how we get out of this situation and have a good series.”
