Kirk Herbstreit ruins the Steelers' wild-card game attempt against the Ravens

Kirk Herbstreit hasn’t made many friends with his interpretations over the last few years, even if he was right that night.

The Baltimore Ravens outscored their arch-rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the first half on Saturday night and led 21-0 at halftime. It wasn’t particularly close either, Baltimore dominated. They owned the ball for more than 20 of the first 30 minutes, completed 23 more plays and defeated Pittsburgh 308-59.

Herbstreit, coming off a Cotton Bowl broadcast in which Ohio State defeated Texas, wasn’t feeling the intensity of the NFL playoffs.

“If I were a Steelers fan, just watching that first half would worry me: They’re in the postseason,” Herbstreit said. “You are dominated. I don’t see any fight. I don’t see any resistance.”

He wasn’t done yet, clearly angered by the lack of fighting spirit from this once-proud franchise.

“It’s one thing to lose X, O’s to a really talented offense, but where the hell is the fight?” Herbstreit added. “It’s the Pittsburgh Steelers. There is nothing there. They’re just going through the motions.”

Herbstreit suggested taking a look at Justin Fields in the second half. The former Ohio State signal caller made a few cameo appearances in the first 30 minutes, but Russell Wilson continued to get most of the snaps.

The broadcaster also added that Pittsburgh’s defense needs to step up after a dismal half.

Pittsburgh did show more fight in the second half – and Herbstreit praised it – but it proved to be too little, too late as Baltimore won 28-14.
