Kohl’s will close 27 underperforming stores by April. Here is the list

Kohl’s plans to close 27 of its underperforming stores by April 2025 as part of the struggling retailer’s transformation process.

Also closed: an e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, that has been operating since 2010 and will close in May 2025. The company can now fulfill customer orders from stores without the fulfillment center, Kohl’s said.

“We always take these decisions very seriously,” said CEO Tom Kingsbury, who will step down as CEO on Jan. 15. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also make difficult but necessary decisions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”

Ashley Buchanan, former CEO of Michaels Companies, will take over as Kohl’s CEO on January 15. Kingsbury will remain an advisor and serve on the company’s board until his retirement in May 2025.

Kohl’s announced in November 2024 that it expected sales to decline 7% to 8% in 2024. The retailer reported its full-year sales in February.
