“Kraven the Hunter” post-credits scene, ending and more spoilers

Spoiler alert! We discuss major plot points and the ending of Kraven the Hunter (in theaters now), so be careful if you haven’t seen it yet.

“Kraven the Hunter” is good in at least one thing: it gives Aaron Taylor-Johnson a decent rehearsal tape for a possible James Bond appearance, even if Sergei Kravinoff is more of an animal-active secret agent who rips your throat out with a tiger’s tooth.

“Kraven” takes the Spider-Man supervillain from the comics – dating back to 1964’s “Amazing Spider-Man” #4 – and tells him an X-rated superhero origin story. Sergei was raised to hunt big game by his abusive Russian gangster father Nikolai (Russell Crowe). As a teenager, he was attacked by a lion and the witch’s potion that saved his life also gave him primal animal powers. Years later, under the name Kraven, he is an anti-hero who takes down poachers and hunts down criminals, usually leaving a bloody mess in his wake.

What happens at the end of Kraven the Hunter?

Kraven’s weak, nightclub-singing half-brother Dmitri (Fred Hechinger) is captured by the Rhino (Alessandro Nivola), who can transform into a horned rhino-man, and this new version of the spider enemy demands a ransom from Dmitri to get money out of Nikolai. With the help of lawyer Calypso (Ariana DeBose), the girl who gave Kraven the aforementioned potion as children, Kraven tracks down Rhino and saves his brother, but learns that it was Nikolai who orchestrated it all. He understands how powerful his estranged son is and wants him to become part of the family business.

Kraven isn’t depressed at all. After removing the bullets from his father’s gun, he lets a bear attack and kill his unprotected father. However, Kraven accepts a posthumous gift from Nikolai: the iconic Lion’s Mane Cloak that Kraven wears in the comics.

Are there any other Spider-Man villains that appear in “Kraven”?

The Foreigner (Christopher Abbott), a mercenary working for Rhino, has his origins in the comics. But another iconic A-list Spider-villain also makes an appearance. In the film’s final scene, set a year after her father’s death, Kraven learns that former milquetoast Dmitri has now taken over his father’s crime division and can change his face and imitate the voice of anyone he wants, including Kraven . “You know me, I’ve always been a chameleon,” Dmitri says to his brother.

Enter the Chameleon, a nefarious master of disguise who has threatened poor Spidey for even longer in the comics than his brother Kraven. In between Dmitri’s facial changes in the film, there is a glimpse of his blank silver facade – a nod to what the character looks like on the page.

Does “Kraven” have a post-credits scene?

There could have been all sorts of teasers. Perhaps a reference to the mysterious “doctor in New York” who used a strange trick to transform Dmitri into the chameleon. Or Kraven seeing a Daily Bugle article about Spider-Man and maybe growling. Or even an appearance from Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, which would mean two hours weren’t wasted watching this forgettable origin story of a villain who isn’t all that bad.
