Kyler Murray and Zaven Collins can earn contract incentives against the 49ers

Kyler Murray’s salary is $37 million this season, but the Arizona Cardinals quarterback has a chance to increase that salary with a solid rushing performance in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Murray’s contract includes a raise of $750,000 per season if he runs for at least 600 yards and scores six rushing touchdowns.

In the first 16 games, Murray rushed for 550 yards and reached the end zone five times. So a 50-yard gain on Sunday and a rushing touchdown would increase his $18 million guaranteed salary for 2025 by $750,000 and push his salary cap hit above $44 million.

Other compensation Murray will receive next year includes a guaranteed roster bonus of $11.9 million, an offseason workout bonus of $1,857,500 and a maximum roster bonus of $850,000 ($50,000 per game). He has the same per-game roster bonus this year, but the practice bonus for 2025 increases from $1 million in 2023 and 2024.

Murray isn’t the only Cardinals player hoping to put more money in his pocket on Sunday.

Outside linebacker Zaven Collins has 4.0 sacks and getting at least one against the 49ers would earn him a $300,000 bonus.

Of course, what Murray and Collins have at stake is peanuts compared to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. He can earn non-guaranteed raises worth nearly half of his $12.7 million salary this season if three things happen in the team’s game against the Rams.

  • A win would be the Seahawks’ 10th of the season and would be worth $2 million for Smith.
  • Currently at 4,097 yards, that would be another $2 million if he gets at least 185 yards. The significance of the 4,282 yards passing is that it was his career high in 2022.
  • Finally, Smith would earn an additional $2 million if his completion percentage is 69.7. It is currently at 70.2.

If he reaches all three levels, Smith would see his salary increase by another $6 million in 2025.
