Lackey Tabbed Freshmen First Team All-American

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Freshmen forward Ginny Lackey The James Madison women’s soccer team was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Freshman First Team All-American list as the outlet announced its Division I women’s soccer postseason honors Wednesday morning.

Lackey is the second Duke in program history to earn a spot on one of the freshmen teams, joining Cate Tisinger, who made the first team in 2007.

TopDrawerSoccer’s laurel adds to a laundry list of accolades including Sun Belt Player and Freshman of the Year and All-Tournament Team, United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-America and First Team All-Southeast Region, ECAC Rookie of the Year and Semifinalist the MAC Hermann Trophy Award.

The Bolton, Manchester native had an outstanding debut season in purple and gold. Lackey started 16 games and hit back-to-back double plays in her second and third collegiate games. This began a program in which she set a record-breaking nine consecutive games in which she scored a goal. The scoring streak coincided with her JMU record of 11 consecutive games in which she scored a point.

After recording 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points this season, Lackey became the first player in JMU history and second in the Sun Belt since 2016 to win both Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season Years” while also securing a spot on the First Team All Sun Belt and All-Tournament Team honors. In a single season at JMU, she is tied for fifth in points, eighth in assists and ninth in goals. She became the eighth Duke to record double-digit assists in a season and recorded the 13th 30-point season in program history. Lackey is also the first Duke to record at least 10 goals and assists in a season since Julie Reule had 10 assists and 13 goals in 1994.

The Dukes completed a historic season this fall by winning both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships, finishing with a record of 12-4-5.
