Lake Effect snow peaks this evening as temperatures drop

DETROIT – A relatively dry start to the morning with a few flying flakes as we expect stormy, deteriorating conditions from this evening into Thursday morning.

SUNRISE: 7:52 a.m

Snow potential due to lake effect is increasing today and will peak throughout southeast Michigan this evening. The worst of the snowfall will be west of Lansing, like last week. However, bands of snow will reach our area during the late afternoon and evening, peaking in coverage and intensity throughout the night this evening. Greater coverage toward the M-59/I-96/I-696 corridor. Snow squalls may occur and quickly accumulate, reducing visibility. Therefore, be careful on the roads as white snow conditions will quickly appear. Widely varying accumulations of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher snowfall amounts are possible. Wind gusts will increase to 30-40 mph this evening into the early morning hours. This creates drifting and drifting snow.

SUNSET: 5:01 p.m

Arctic air enhanced by gale-force winds will result in subzero wind chills around sunrise Thursday morning. Light snow showers or thunderstorms will continue throughout the day. Highs will only be around 20 degrees Thursday afternoon, but wind chills will only climb to single digits in the afternoon. Working away from your children’s stand at the bus stop will result in dangerously cold temperatures if you don’t take proper precautions. We start warming up for the weekend, there could be rain on Saturday.
