After staying healthy for most of the season so far, Anthony Davis suffered an injury in the Los Angeles Lakers’ Christmas game against the Golden State Warriors.

The power forward suffered an ankle injury in the first half and was considered questionable to return, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. He was not on the field at the start of the third quarter.

It is unclear what Davis’ injury is and whether he will have to miss time.

According to McMenamin, Davis only missed one game this season due to a serious foot injury that was later diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. He missed the Lakers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 6, but was back on the court later that week when Los Angeles faced the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a November 10 match against the Toronto Raptors, Davis was hit in the face by the hand of Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl. He went to the locker room midway through the third quarter and did not return to the game.

According to McMenamin, Davis had swelling in his left eye that made it difficult to keep the eye open, but he had his eye examined by an ophthalmologist and avoided missing due to the eye injury.

Davis was the Lakers’ best player and was named an MVP candidate earlier this year. He’s cooled off a bit now, but still averages 26.6 points, 11.8 boards, 2.2 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.

If the Lakers have a chance at a title this season, Davis will be at the forefront of that championship run and they hope he can avoid missing serious time.
