Lakers coach JJ Redick, Palisades resident, expresses ‘thoughts and prayers’ after his family was evacuated due to fires

The Pacific Palisades has hit the sports world as Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick is directly affected.

Redick is a resident of the area that was hit by wildfires on Tuesday.

More than 13,000 buildings and 26,000 people are in the evacuation zone, which the ministry said was classified as “at immediate risk”. Los Angeles Fire department.

Redick said members of his and his wife’s family were also evacuated.

The head coach shared his thoughts before his team’s game against the Mavericks in Dallas.

“I just want to thank everyone in the Palisades right now and send them thoughts and prayers. I live there. Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they were evacuated,” Redick told the media on Tuesday. “I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers definitely and I hope everyone stays safe.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom was near the fire and was notified by authorities, his office said.

The 77-year-old actor James Woods also had to vacate his house.

Over 250 LAFD firefighters battled the fire, in addition to firefighters from neighboring agencies. About 30 abandoned vehicles on Sunset and Palisades will be moved by the county to ensure free passage, the fire department said.

LA Mayor Karen Bass is currently out of town to attend the inauguration of John Dramani Mahama in Accra, Ghana, according to a statement from the White House.

Los Angeles County lifeguards said elevated fire weather conditions with dry offshore winds were expected to continue through Wednesday.

“Residents should continue to be prepared to evacuate and stay away from the area so emergency responders can operate safely,” the agency said.
