Lakers coach JJ Redick responds to Charles Barkley’s tirade against him: ‘I literally don’t care’

The NBA’s latest feud between TNT commentator Charles Barkley and Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick appears to be a bit one-sided.

A day after Barkley criticized Redick for criticizing the negativity of NBA broadcasts, Redick responded that he hadn’t bothered to watch the entire clip and that he didn’t care what the NBA Hall of Famer was talking about have to say to him.

Redick’s full answer:

“I got a random text from someone after the game. I looked at my phone and it said something about Charles Barkley. I asked, ‘Huh?’ But (Lakers assistant coaches Greg St. Jean and Beau Levesque) showed me that I didn’t make it to the end of the clip, I have to be honest. My resting heart rate is 64. I watched the clip 64. I literally don’t care.

Barkley received a lot of attention for a tirade Redick unleashed last month: “If I’m a casual fan and every time I turn on the TV you tell me the product sucks, then I’m not going to watch the product. “.”

In turn, Barkley addressed Redick’s coaching philosophy, decision-making and job security, as well as the status of the Lakers organization:

“(Redick) said something about how we’re the reason people aren’t looking at this crappy product we have… yeah, us, like we’re out there cranking up 100 threes a night. JJ, you come for the king, you better not miss it, brother. You can’t hide the flaws they have. They got rid of Frank Vogel’s job, they got rid of Darvin Ham, who did a good job, but you came out of there thinking you’d turn things around with the same ugly girl you dated.

“(Redick) came in and thought, ‘I can make this thing work.’ Hell you can do it! You can put makeup on the pig! …The Lakers stink, man. Come on, man.”

Barkley is no stranger to media feuds and strong language, while Redick is entering his first season as head coach of the Lakers after three years in the media at ESPN. After a 119-102 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, Los Angeles has won seven of its last nine games after a disappointing stretch earlier this season. The team is currently 19-14, tied for fourth place in the Western Conference.

Redick is something of a lightning rod for the Lakers’ longer-term concerns, both as a first-time professional coach (his only coaching experience is with his son’s elementary school team) and through his proximity to LeBron James (the two had a podcast together). before Redick’s signing by the Lakers). As long as the Lakers lose at least some of their games, he will be an easy target for Barkley and many others.
