Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis was forced to exit Wednesday night’s win over the Golden State Warriors after twisting his left ankle in the lane. He was later expelled, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

As Davis went for a rebound in the first quarter of the Christmas Day game at Chase Center, he misstepped in the lane and rolled his left ankle violently. He made no contact with anyone on the lane, but Davis immediately rushed onto the court and grabbed him by the ankle. He was clearly left lying down and in a lot of pain as the game went the other way.

Davis stayed in the game for the next few possessions and tried to play it out, but he was seen limping quite a bit as he did so. At the next timeout, Davis finally left the field and went straight to the locker room.

The Lakers initially said Davis was questionable to return because of his ankle injury, but they ruled him out late in the third quarter. He finished the game with two rebounds and no points after shooting 0 of 3 from the field. Davis entered Wednesday’s game averaging 26.6 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.

Despite losing to Davis, the Lakers took the lead in the final minutes of the second quarter, taking a 55-52 lead at halftime and ultimately winning 115-113. LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to surpass 500 career points in his 19th game on Christmas Day, finishing Wednesday night’s contest with 31 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
