Lakers vs. Hawks Final Score: The Lakers suffocate late and fall to the Hawks in OT

Despite a much improved performance after the significant loss to the Heat on Wednesday, the Lakers ended their road trip with another loss, losing 134-132 in Atlanta.

A series of fumbles in overtime led to the Lakers tying the game away with a three-pointer from Trae Young, giving the Hawks the win with less than 10 seconds left.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James had strong games. AD finished with 38 points, including a perfect 5-5 in the second period, along with 10 rebounds, eight assists and two blocks. LeBron James scored 39 points with 11 assists, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocks.

Gabe Vincent had a solid game from the start in place of D’Lo and finished with 12 points and five assists. Rui Hachimura was red-hot from the field, going 5-6 and finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds. Dalton Knecht had 14 points and Max Christie contributed nine Points.

It was an offensive game with both teams trading baskets back and forth. LeBron knocked down two 3-pointers and AD got off to a good start, scoring nine points.

Rui was the Laker who felt it the most, making his first three shots, including a 3-pointer. Neither team managed to gain a big lead or momentum. At the end of the first period, LA had a three-point lead.

The Hawks started the second round much stronger than the Lakers, scoring four straight points before LeBron made a layup. Max Christie contributed to the scoring with a 3-pointer. The Hawks went up by six until LeBron drilled another three-pointer to cut the deficit to three.

LeBron took the lead in the quarter, making four of his first six shots. Atlanta led for most of the quarter when Los Angeles’ defense let them down. As soon as the quarter came to a close, the Lakers got going with AD taking control and knocking down free throws and a hook shot.

Max had productive minutes, tallying six points, but had foul trouble with four in the first half. The offense was so good for both teams that there were ten draws.

One surprising statistic was that Trae Young didn’t score in double figures at halftime.

Although the Lakers looked like they would take the lead at halftime after a 3-pointer from Gabe Vincent, the game ended in a tie for the 11th time at halftime.

Trae started the second half with a layup and reached double figures with 11 points. Dalton hit a 3-pointer, his second of the night. Rui was still smoking hot as he made three more of his own. LA’s start to the quarter was excellent, with the lead increasing to six.

LeBron knocked down a nifty one-legged 3-pointer. This was followed by a layup in transition from Gabe that extended the lead to 11.

The Hawks started to feel it from behind the arc. They converted three of them to reduce the deficit to six. Atlanta turned it into a one-point game and once again both teams began trading baskets back and forth.

LA struggled to defend Trae, who knocked down three points and played much better than he did in the first half. D’Angelo Russell led the way with a 3-pointer to put the Lakers ahead by three points.

Both teams continued to trade baskets as it was a heated offensive game. At the end of the third period, LA had a three-point lead.

The Hawks struck first with a layup to start the final frame. Max then lobbed to LeBron for a dunk that sent Laker fans in the crowd into a frenzy. The exchange of baskets continued, with both teams taking turns holding a lead.

The Lakers gave the Hawks easy shooting opportunities. At 5:54, the Hawks had a lead of four. Atlanta’s bench was pouring in with 55 points and counting.

AD made it a two-point game with a layup. LeBron hit a crucial 3-pointer to put the team ahead by one. Gabe extended the lead with a mid-range shot. LeBron made two free throws.

With 1:39 minutes left, the Hawks gained significant momentum and went up by one. LA had no more fouls and had to play as perfectly as possible to end the game.

Gabe found AD with a lob to give LA one. The Hawks took a two-point lead with a huge 3-pointer. LeBron then tied the game with a layup. The game went into overtime after Christie blocked a three-pointer from Trae Young.

Atlanta took first place with four points in a row. Max hit a 3-pointer and made the game one point. AD put the Lakers ahead by one with free throws. Trae put the Hawks in trouble with a layup. The game was tied as both teams traded baskets again.

The Lakers were ahead by three with 40.4 seconds left. The Lakers only had a lead after the Hawks converted free throws. LA lost the ball and Atlanta appeared to have a layup until LeBron made his famous chase down block and saved them.

LA won a one-on-one and had the ball with 25.9 seconds left. The Hawks defended well and caused a jump ball that Atlanta won.

Needing a late stop to secure the win, the Lakers predictably failed when Trae gave the hosts the lead with a dagger 3-pointer. LeBron’s long-range shot went wide to end the game.
