‘Landman’s Season 2 & Beyond Future’ Gets Confident Reactions From Billy Bob Thornton Amid The Taylor Sheridan Show’s Streaming Dominance

With his reunion with Taylor Sheridan proving a success, Billy Bob Thornton is confident CountrymanThe future. The Oscar winner leads the cast of the neo-Western drama as Tommy Norris, the titular crisis manager for a West Texas oil company who faces multiple situations in his life, including the aftermath of an oil rig accident that leaves several workers dead came. With CountrymanThe show’s cast also includes Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph and Jon Hamm has received generally positive reviews so far, proving to be another welcome show from the Yellowstone creative mind.

During a recent interview with TheWrap To discuss the show, Billy Bob Thornton was asked Countryman‘s future beyond the debut season. Although I don’t have a direct answer to this, The Oscar winner has confirmed that he “logged in“to continue playing his characterwhile also remembering that he finds it much more fun to explore a character across multiple episodes of a series than a pared-down version of a story arc in the running time of a film. See what Thornton explained below:

I signed up for it. Ten years ago I wouldn’t have enjoyed it. But there is a different perception now. All actors want to be on streaming now. Here you can develop a character. What director, writer or actor doesn’t want to be able to make a film that they don’t cut down to an hour and a half? It’s every director’s dream to make 10 hours of film. An episode can be 48 minutes or one hour and two minutes long. Unless you’re making Marvel movies and stuff like that, the movie business isn’t really the place to be anymore.

During a recent interview with Screen rant Ahead of the episode 4 premiere, star Kayla Wallace, who plays ruthless lawyer Rebecca Falcone, was also asked if she had an update Countryman The chances of the second season. She was also in the dark about the future of the showHowever, expressed her hope, “Million seasonsand in particular her hope to work with Demi Moore on the show:

I hope so. I’m hoping for millions of seasons until we can’t do a season anymore. No, I don’t know yet. I can only hope that we continue to tell these stories and see where these characters go. I would love to work with Demi. She’s just incredible and I’m honored to be part of the cast that she’s in, but yeah, I would love to work with her.

What this means for Landman’s future

Thornton’s continued commitment is a good sign

While nothing is official at the time of writing, Thornton’s continued passion and enjoyment for playing Tommy bodes well CountrymanSeason 2 renewal chances. Part of what helped carry Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe to his success was Kevin Costner’s initial commitment to play John Dutton III for as long as the creator had in mind. Although Costner’s exit became infamous for the show’s current final season, it has had no impact on its success so far Yellowstone The fifth season premiere of Part B set a new record for the show on Paramount Network.

Thornton’s note that he “logged in” for Countryman could also well indicate that the Oscar winner has signed a multi-year contract Countrymanwhich wouldn’t be the first time in Sheridan’s wheelhouse. He and co-creator Hugh Dillon have previously hinted that they are planning Mayor of Kingstown should last seven seasons, while Zoe Saldaña recently stated that she is under contract for “At least three seasons” from lionessproving that Sheridan often creates his shows with multiple seasons in mind for his and his co-creators’ characters.

which the show is largely based on.

Even if Thornton didn’t want to return for another season, that wouldn’t necessarily spell trouble CountrymanThe future. Similar YellowstoneSheridan’s new series has a son character of Thornton’s Tommy, which could help establish a new protagonist if he dies. Additionally, Countryman has dominated the streaming charts since its premiereincluding exceeding Yellowstone even in the middle of the final season.

Our take on Landman’s potential future

Sheridan has another viable franchise on his hands

Based on the show’s streaming performance alone, I find it hard to believe Countryman will not be renewed for season 2 at Paramount+. It would take a pretty big drop in viewership for the streamer to not consider it a success and a given Yellowstone comes to an end, audiences will definitely be hungry for more Western content from Sheridan, which Thornton’s show obviously tackles effectively.
