Lane Kiffin forecast for 2025 and beyond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When Lane Kiffin talked about the future Thursday night, it wasn’t with much applause or a hopeful wish. He spoke matter-of-factly.

“We’re just getting started,” Kiffin said.

As Ole Miss celebrated on the field after a 52-20 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl win over Duke (9-4), the Rebels’ football coach said as if he could look to the future.

Kiffin’s statement could bear fruit. Maybe not. In any case, he has created a strong starting point.

With the win, Ole Miss finished the game 10-3. For the Rebels it is the second season with ten wins in a row, most recently in 1959/60. Ole Miss has won 39 games in Kiffin’s four non-COVID seasons. In the four years before Kiffin, the Rebels won 20 games.

Talent will be leaving the Ole Miss roster en masse. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss’ all-time leading passer, is ineligible to play. Defensive linemen Walter Nolen, Princely Umanmielen and defensive back Trey Amos are all listed as early-round selections in the NFL Draft. There are others too.

As far as the future is concerned, that doesn’t bother Kiffin. He has gone through cycles where critical players are eliminated.

“I probably wouldn’t have been as confident (and to say Ole Miss is just getting started) if we hadn’t done some of this earlier,” Kiffin said. “I feel like when (quarterback) Matt Corral left, a lot of people thought we were going to have this downturn, and that was just kind of a Matt Corral thing.”
