Leao and Pulisic fuel AC Milan’s comeback in a 3-2 win over Inter in the Italian Super Cup final

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — It took exactly a week for Sergio Conceicao to win his first trophy as AC Milan coach — with two comeback victories no less.

Milan recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat city rivals Inter Milan 3-2 and win the Italian Super Cup on Monday.

Rafael Leao came off the bench and was involved in all three of Milan’s goals from Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham.

Conceicao was brought in last Monday as a replacement for the sacked Paulo Fonseca and led the Rossoneri to a comeback win against Juventus in the semi-final.

This time Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi gave Inter the lead with goals on either side of half-time.

Leao then suffered a foul, which led to a free kick that Hernandez curled around the Inter wall.

Pulisic then completed a counterattack by firing through Augusto’s legs in a move that started with Leao.

For the third goal, Leao prepared a through ball for Pulisic, who crossed to Abraham, who tapped into the empty net in stoppage time.

It was the fifth time in the last seven years that the competition had been held in Saudi Arabia and the second year of an expanded four-team format.

A throw-in led to Inter’s opening goal when Taremi passed the ball inside the penalty area to Lautaro, who hit back before firing through Hernandez’s legs in what was Inter’s only real chance of the half.

Taremi, who played for the injured Marcus Thuram, completed a counterattack immediately after the break.

Milan will play their first Serie A game under Conceicao against Cagliari on Saturday. The Rossoneri sit in eighth place but will return to the league with much more confidence.
