LeBron James hit a three-pointer from the other side of the court, the ball spinning perfectly through the air Friday night before rocketing through the net. As he ran across the square, he shook his head and gritted his teeth.

Then James reached the right block, the Atlanta defender on his back, before turning and making a mid-range jumper. After a stop, he took a step closer to the Atlanta bench, came back to almost the same spot, spun and darted again, running past the Hawks as their coach Quin Snyder frustratingly called a timeout to try and stop the game It.

A day after James scored 38 points to lead the Lakers to a shorthanded win over Portland, he was at it again, this time against a dangerous Atlanta team. Against a parade of young, athletic long wings trying helplessly to stop him, James looked ageless and led the Lakers to a 119-102 victory – their 20th win of the season.

James’ 30 points – the last two forcing Snyder into that late timeout – gave him his 563rd 30-point game, one more than Michael Jordan and the most in NBA history.

James, who played without Anthony Davis against Portland, brought Davis back on Friday. Davis scored 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in an excellent defensive performance.

Austin Reaves scored 20 points with seven rebounds and six assists to go, and Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht added 13 each. Dorian Finney-Smith also hit two corner three-pointers off the bench on his way to eight points.

The win, the Lakers’ seventh in their last nine games, was one of the team’s better performances overall, save for 19 turnovers against Atlanta’s aggressive perimeter defense.

While Trae Young scored 33 points, he was harassed by Max Christie for most of the game. The Lakers held Atlanta to just six of 34 shots from three while outshooting Atlanta by 17.

The Lakers now travel to Texas for two tough games, first against Houston on Sunday and then against Dallas on Tuesday, before returning to Los Angeles for their next eight games (seven at home and the first at the Intuit Dome).
