LeBron James discusses Bronny James’ progress with the South Bay Lakers

In addition to helping the Los Angeles Lakers win games and attempt to make a push in the 2024-25 postseason, LeBron James is also closely watching his son Bronny James’ progress as he continues to develop in the G League. Bronny has become an integral part of the South Bay Lakers rotation of late, playing in five games in the last two weeks.

And the more regularly he plays, the more success he enjoys. In five games since December 7, Bronny is averaging 16.8 points, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He didn’t shoot the ball particularly well – 41.3% from the field and 26.0% from three – but he did well defensively, as expected.

LeBron had the opportunity to talk about Bronny’s recent stints in the G League, and he finally saw a little of the player he was before his cardiac arrest in the summer of 2023.

“I feel like every chance he gets to play, he’s finding his way back to himself and looking more and more confident,” LeBron said. “I go out there and just play off my instincts. That’s how he always played. I think he said after one of the games…he said he was feeling better mentally after the incident. Everything is starting to get back into shape, starting to get back into shape.

“And he’s just out there, just playing. And it’s great to see where he is right now. He still has a lot of room for improvement. He will continue to improve because he enjoys working. He wants to be a part of the big league. It was great to see him in Orlando and I think more importantly for him, the second game was a win. I think that was great for him too.”

At the end of the day, the Lakers star just wants his son to be healthy and succeed at the professional level. And while Bronny still has a lot of work to do to become an effective NBA player, he is already making progress toward that goal.

At full strength, Bronny was a top prospect and was expected to be a key player at USC. Maybe that can happen in the South Bay.

LeBron James would want Kevin Durant’s Hesi pull-up

Three NBA legends – LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry – sat down for an exclusive interview before the games on Christmas Day. In that interview, they took turns saying what qualities they would like to see in one of the other players, and LeBron chose Durant’s Hesi sweater.
