LeBron James recaps the loss to the Hawks

LeBron James has rediscovered his groove in recent games as he has been much better at basketball.

Unfortunately for James, his recent performance wasn’t enough as the Los Angeles Lakers lost a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks. James recorded another triple-double with 39 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, but that failed in the end.

The Lakers as a whole looked much more focused and committed from the first tip and did well to stay ahead for most of the game before mistakes drove them into a corner later on. James had a chance to win the game in overtime, but he didn’t make his breakthrough. The 3-pointer from well beyond the arc was off target.

After the game, James quickly summarized how the Hawks were able to win via Spectrum SportsNet:

“They made a few more plays than us,” James said.

James also spoke about Anthony Davis’ turnovers towards the end of the game, supporting him by explaining that they were not “mistakes” that cost them:

“He turned it over, I picked him up and got the block. We took possession and brought him in, they tied him up. These are not mistakes. He turned it around, it’s my job to support him, that’s what teammates do. I deflected the block from Daniels’ hands and we got the ball back. Came in the ball and they tied it up great.”

Atlanta got a great second half from Trae Young, who caught fire from the field in the third quarter and dished out open teammates all night long. Meanwhile, Davis almost had his own triple-double, but he made a few terrible turnovers that the Lakers couldn’t recover from.

The loss reinforced the notion that the team has very little room for error to win games, even with its two stars playing their best. Both James and Davis had their poor games against Atlanta, but they were also responsible for doing most of the heavy lifting on both ends of the floor.

Regardless, Los Angeles has no choice but to return to the draw, even though it faces a much easier opponent in the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
