LeBron James sets the NBA Christmas record with the Los Angeles Lakers’ win

LeBron James picked up a historic win on Christmas Day as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 115-113 in San Francisco.

The win, secured by Austin Reaves’ layup with one second left, led the 39-year-old to become the NBA’s all-time leading player with 25 wins in December, his 11th in 19 appearances.

The Lakers secured the win despite losing big man Anthony Davis, who twisted his left ankle, eight minutes into the game

“It’s always difficult playing without AD, so I think our task is even bigger, we have to do a little bit more,” said James, who finished with 31 points.

“Everyone has to do their part, especially in defense, because AD is our anchor. I thought the guys did a great job of just playing off each other, getting to where we wanted to go offensively and also being able to push through and get timely stops against a really good offensive team.”

Despite Davis’ absence, the Lakers controlled most of the game but had a scare late.

Stephen Curry led 109-100 with a minute and 30 seconds left and scored eight points for the Warriors as they went on a 13-4 run, including two three-pointers with 12.2 and 7.6 seconds left to make it balance the game.

But Reaves drove to the basket for the game-winning score and finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Curry scored 38 points, including eight three-pointers, the NBA’s highest for a Christmas game .

Victor Wembanyama scored 42 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and four blocks in his debut on Christmas Day, but his efforts were in vain as the San Antonio Spurs lost 117-114 to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks were led by Mikal Bridges with a season-high 41 points – the second-best total by a Knicks player on Christmas Day behind Bernard King’s 60-point performance in 1984.

And Anthony Edwards scored 26 points as visitors Minnesota cruised to a 105-99 win over Dallas, which was without second-half star Luka Doncic after he suffered a strained calf late in the second quarter.
