Legendary professional wrestler, uncle of WWE superstar, dies at 66

Rey Misterio Sr., the uncle of World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Rey Mysterio, has died.

He was 66.

His son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio (Miguel Aarón López Hernández), confirmed the news via Facebook on Friday.

“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my father, Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, King Misterio Sr., passed away this morning,” he wrote. “Will keep you updated. Thank you.”

Misterio was born Miguel Ángel López Díaz in Tijuana in 1955 and initially trained as a boxer before devoting himself to professional wrestling and lucha libre. He made his ring debut in 1976.

He reached new heights in 1990 when he appeared at World Championship Wrestling’s “Starrcade” pay-per-view, where he faced WCW and New World Order legend Konnan (both representing Mexico) at the “Pat O’Connor Memorial International Cup.” “ came together.
