Lehigh finishes the season opener with fast times before the finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women’s track and field kicked off the indoor season in its own backyard at Fast Times Before Finals at Rauch Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s always exciting to open the season and many of our women played strong games,” said the assistant head coach Brooke Astor. “We had a handful of event winners that can set the tone for the meets to come. Our women did a great job in training and encouraged each other every day. So it’s really fun to see that hard work pay off.”

“Some athletes have demonstrated impressive performances and set new personal records, so we are excited to see how their season progresses,” Astor said. “We have a great group of proven talent mixed with strong first years, so it should be a great combination.”



JUMPS
senior Rory Stone was Lehigh’s only pole vaulter on Friday, placing eighth with a score of 2.65m.

On Saturday, eight Mountain Hawks competed in the long jump, led by the senior Lillian Mauger who took first place with 5.33 m. senior Keisha Modi Just behind her, she finished third with a mark of 5.27 m. Second semester Corinn Brewer (5.10 m), junior Grace Nation (5.08 m) and senior Lauren Roy (4.92 m) all finished in the top ten for Lehigh.

Second semester Gaea DePass took first place in the high jump on Saturday with a jump of 1.66 m. senior Izabel Fronc came second as a junior with 1.61 m Melanie LaCorte came fourth with a jump of 1.51 m.

The final jumping event of the weekend was the triple jump on Saturday. Mauger finished second with a jump of 11.14m, while Nation was third with a jump of 11.00m.



MIDDLE RANGE
The first middle distance race of the weekend was the women’s 800m, in which Troutman and Lewis competed. The pair achieved consecutive times of 2:46.86 and 2:48.96, placing them sixth and seventh respectively.

Four student-athletes, all Lehigh runners, participated in Saturday’s 1,000-meter run. Junior Abby Klebe took first place in 2:51.37, just 0.37 shy of her school record. The senior followed her Riley Morrell (3:02.27), senior Svea Wickelgren (3:03.74) and first graders Isabel Owens (3:09.27).

Lehigh took the top four places in the 500m race on Saturday, led by the sophomore Corinn Brewer with a time of 1:19.28. The first grader followed her Lanae Carrington (1:20.93), junior Amber Barrios (1:22,18) and first graders Adelaide Videon-Perino (1:23.87).

The 4x800m race featured four teams comprised entirely of Lehigh student-athletes. The team of Lucy Afanasewicz, Savanah beaver, Athiel Mading And Madison Hayes took first place with a time of 9:49.39.



SPRINTS/HURDLES
In the 60m hurdles as part of the indoor pentathlon on Friday, Troutman finished tied for first place with a time of 9.43. Lewis finished eighth with a time of 11:19.

In the 60m hurdles final on Saturday, senior Shelby Dejana took first place with a time of 9.28.

Junior Gianna Mangili won the 60 m sprint with a time of 7.86. Seniors Stephanie Webb (8.10) and Mauger (8.22) took seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Junior Grace Kennedy took first place in the 200m sprint, crossing the finish line in 25.67.



THROWS
In Friday’s pentathlon, Lewis and Troutman placed fourth and fifth in the shot put. Lewis achieved a throw of 8.70m while Troutman hit a mark of 7.80m.

The weight throw also took place on Friday, with five Mountain Hawks finishing in the top ten. The best Lehigh pitcher was a sophomore Avery Dowkus who reached a mark of 14.83 m and thus took third place, followed by the first grader Emily Kolodziej (13.77 m) and junior Grace Aggen (13.64 m) in fourth and fifth place.

Lehigh dominated the shot put on Saturday, taking the top five places in each event. Dowkus took first place with a throw of 13.04 m, followed by freshman Kolodziej (12.59 m). Olivia Dubrow (11.90 m), Aggen (11.71 m) and first graders Madeline Hussey (11.68 m).



MULTIS
In her first collegiate track and field meet, Troutman placed third in the pentathlon, scoring 3,062 points. Lewis placed eighth with a score of 2,283.


The Mountain Hawks will return to action in the new year on January 11th at Penn Select in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
