Leicester 0-3 Wolves: Vitor Pereira enjoys a dream start to Wolves’ reign

Pereira’s first game as Premier League coach has been a long time coming.

The 56-year-old thought he would get the Everton job in 2013 and said he had “done a lot of interviews with English clubs”.

A two-time title winner with Porto, he finally got a chance in England, but he certainly didn’t think he would be in for such a comfortable start.

Wolves were 3-0 up at half-time, but that doesn’t mean Pereira suddenly made them a more formidable attacking force – they simply took their chances when they appeared.

The first goal came after Nelson Semedo played a speculative ball down the right channel that somehow found its way to Goncalo Guedes in the penalty area. The Portuguese striker, making only his second league start this season, managed to beat Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward with the first shot of Pereira’s tenure.

Matt Doherty then hit a hopeful diagonal ball towards Leicester right-back James Justin, who let the ball pass him without realizing Gomes had gotten behind it.

Gomes received a heavy touch on the chest before attempting to shoot the ball into the goal. Although he failed to score, the ball still went past Ward and into the Leicester net as the goalkeeper dived to his right in anticipation of another touch of the ball from Gomes.

Then, as half-time approached, Semedo played a ball down the right wing to Guedes, who was allowed to turn inside again and meet Cunha, with the Brazilian striker showing great composure and sending the ball past Ward and past the far post Goal scored.

Leicester were quick to make numerous substitutions but Wolves came closest to scoring after the break through Santiago Bueno and Joao Gomes.

More to follow.
